It doesn’t matter what season it is, it’s always a good time to do some spring cleaning to de-junk your house. Once your done comes the hard part – re-stocking your fridge and cupboards with healthy fare that will actually get eaten.
Follow these tips to re-stock your fridge and cupboards:
Make a list. Make sure it’s healthy food choices from the five food groups. Make sure you do not replenish the unhealthy food you just got rid of.
Don’t go grocery shopping when you are hungry. When your sugar levels are low, you will be craving junk food and will be less likely to make good shopping decisions.
Get ready to read. You are going to have to read labels. Or better yet, pick food without an ingredient list (like fruits, veggies, eggs, chicken, and nuts).
Shop the perimeter of the grocery store. In general, real foods are the ones that require refrigeration or freezing. Typically, a grocery store is set up with the refrigerated areas along the wall. So always start with the perimeter of the store first.
