Re-stock your fridge now

It doesn’t matter what season it is, it’s always a good time to do some spring cleaning to de-junk your house. Once your done comes the hard part – re-stocking your fridge and cupboards with healthy fare that will actually get eaten.

Follow these tips to re-stock your fridge and cupboards:

  • Make a list. Make sure it’s healthy food choices from the five food groups. Make sure you do not replenish the unhealthy food you just got rid of.

  • Don’t go grocery shopping when you are hungry. When your sugar levels are low, you will be craving junk food and will be less likely to make good shopping decisions.

  • Get ready to read. You are going to have to read labels. Or better yet, pick food without an ingredient list (like fruits, veggies, eggs, chicken, and nuts).

  • Shop the perimeter of the grocery store. In general, real foods are the ones that require refrigeration or freezing. Typically, a grocery store is set up with the refrigerated areas along the wall. So always start with the perimeter of the store first.
